Meet Landon Perdue

 As our BirdTricks community continues to grow, we regularly encounter people who make amazing bird owners. However, it is only a rare few that are not only amazing bird owners, but amazing trainers as well. With Landon, we knew she was both pretty much right away!

A Brief History

Landon is a seasoned bird trainer with a deep-rooted passion for avian care. With over two decades of experience working with a wide range of exotic animals (including but not limited to Budgies, Doves, Toucans, Cockatoos, African Greys, and many reptiles), she has developed exceptional skills in animal behavior and training, focusing on generalizing positive training techniques across many species. Every new species she works with helps grow not only her knowledge, but the knowledge of her students as well! 

A special part of Landon's journey as a trainer has been passing on her love and respect of animals to her 3 children. She also loves helping children and adults foster a love and appreciation for all living things (feathered, furry, or scaled) by helping others understand the animals better, therefore eliminating fears, anxieties, or misconceptions.

Landon's journey with BirdTricks began in 2022 as a free flight student with her galah, Audio. Since then, she has continued to expand her free flight skills and have successfully applied the techniques found in BirdTricks' Family Friendly Parrot Formula I and 2 to her Major Mitchell Cockatoo, Marabou (check out her series on Patreon!)

If you're just getting your first bird and want to do things the right way from the start, or if you are stuck in a pattern you can't seem to get out of, Landon would love to help you come up with a plan for success. In her own words, "Let's be bird friends!!".

Audio - Rose Breasted Cockatoo (Galah)

Audio is a 2 year old Galah and Landon's first outdoor free flighted bird! Audio, like most male cockatoos, is amazingly motivated to train and an athletic free flyer when at his best. However, also like most male cockatoos, has a bit of an attitude problem and can get aggressive if not staying one step ahead of him when he's at his worst. If you're struggling with problem behaviors and aggression, Landon can absolutely relate and help you work through it!

Marabou - Major Mitchell Cockatoo 

If you are a Patreon member, you might have seen Marabou the project bird. She is a female 16 year old Major Mitchell Cockatoo (Jamie is highly jealous lol) that has had 5 homes throughout her life. Marabou struggles with fear and anxiety, but Landon is working to broaden her world and let her experience a life full of enrichment and new experiences.

Tango - Keel Billed Toucan
Tango was a long term project bird that Landon worked with and learned so much from. She wants to stress that toucans are not for the faint of heart, and definitely do not make good 'pet' birds. However, for the right keeper or program, they can be amazing ambassadors for their species!

Consulting With Landon

While Landon has an extensive list of topics that she will consult on based on the wide range of training she has done with her own flock and the many species she's worked with over the years, there are a few topics she really excels at consulting in...

• Anything regarding flight, both indoor and outdoor
• Hand feeding/weaning (please consult your breeder or avian vet for assistance with this process)
• Anything involving breeding birds 
• Anything that could be considered medical - this needs to be discussed with your avian vet
