While this is not a guide we want anyone to have to use, it is a guide that we felt was necessary to create based on the number of emails and calls we get from frantic and distraught individuals would have just lost their birds.


Every situation we have encountered of people asking us for help recovering their lost bird has been for either 1 of 2 reasons...

1) The bird was outside with no training (usually under the false assumption that clipping a bird means it cannot fly - they can still fly!!). Please do NOT have your bird outside without a harness or crate if not properly flight trained.

2) An accident occurred where a bird escaped the house due to a door or window being left open while the bird was out of its enclosure (it is about 50/50 on clipped versus non-clipped here)


We want everyone, with both clipped and non-clipped birds, to have this information on hand so that they have a plan in place that will give the best odds of recovery if an accident is to occur.

1) A helpful guide full of tips on how to recover your lost bird and what measures you can take ahead of time to mitigate risks.

2) A fill-in-the-blank "Lost Parrot" flyer along with a sample of what a good flyer looks like (there is some stuff you do NOT want to include!)

 

With this guide, we want to stress that recovery is NOT guaranteed, but these tips and precautionary measures will ensure that, if an accident does occur, you will be set up for the greatest chance of success
