Fun Fact: In the wild, birds will forage from 6-18 hours a day depending on the time of year and the species of bird.
This means that, in captivity, our parrots should be getting enough foraging opportunities each day to satisfy that natural instinct to search for their food. Instead, we feed them all-day buffets in bowls and leave them to their own devices the rest of the day.
I think we can all agree that a parrot with too much time on their hands rarely results in anything positive.
From screaming to aggression to feather destructive behaviors - all of these are behaviors that can be curbed or eliminated by offering plenty of foraging opportunities throughout the day.
That's why we created this "How to Forage" Guide! Foraging is something that is natural and necessary for our parrots, yet it doesn't need to be time consuming for us. By trying some of these Tips and Tricks, you can get your bird happily foraging in no time.
We also developed a monthly toy box that revolves specifically around providing you safe, natural toys that have plenty of foraging opportunities in them. If set on a subscription, it's delivered right to your door every month - more savings, less work!
